Running on top of the Great Wall of China
Associations, companies and other groups regularly approach Munckhof with unusual trip requests. A group of friends recently asked us to put together a trip through China for them, combining the visit with a running event there. It was an unusual request for which the Groups Desk department put together a fully tailored itinerary.
Running on top of the Great Wall of China
Munckhof arranged all the details of the trip. Alongside visits to cities including Beijing and Guangzhou, we also arranged for the group to participate in the Great Wall of China Marathon: a very tough and demanding running event along the top of the wall.
Ton Hoogakker, one of the members of the group on this trip, reminisces: 'It was a wonderful trip. We stayed in Beijing for the first few days, getting to know the city. After that, our focus shifted to the marathon for a few days. The marathon was incredibly tough due to the high temperature and the unbelievably challenging course. Sections of the Great Wall had a gradient of 22%. In the end, there were only 15 people who actually completed the full marathon distance. Everyone in our group managed the half marathon distance, and achievement that we can really be proud of. After our marathon adventures, we set off on the next part of the journey, visiting Pingyao, Xi’an, Guilin, Yangshuo and Guangzhou, enabling us to get to know those parts of the country too.'
Arranged down to the very last detail
The group was very satisfied with the trip. 'We would like to thank Munckhof for organizing this trip for us. Everything was taken care of, right down to the last detail, with a good itinerary, good hotels, friendly and knowledgeable guides, great food (especially the Peking Duck dinner), good drivers, and a whole lot more. Everywhere we went, the guide was waiting for us on arrival and took care of everything for us.
